Dear
The ACU remains committed to building a better world through higher education. As we deal with the short- and long-term impacts of COVID-19, it’s clear that universities are an essential part of an inclusive and sustainable post-pandemic recovery and must be supported and protected. We will continue to promote this message at the highest levels, including UN and Commonwealth meetings. We will also continue to support our members, by convening universities and enabling you to share knowledge and experience. The beginning of a new year is a fitting time to seize new opportunities, advance organisational goals, and plan for a better future. While last year presented its challenges, we are filled with hope for 2021 and positive about what we can achieve together in the months ahead. We have a lot to look forward to this year at the ACU, including a range of funding opportunities for both university staff and students that are currently open for applications. You can find further details below. I am also pleased to announce the appointment of our new Interim Head of Membership and International Strategic Engagement, Matthew Hornshaw. Matthew has worked in the international education sector for almost 30 years, spanning senior positions in private and public sector universities and organisations. ‘I can’t wait to start my role with the ACU. Not only does the ACU have an unprecedented global network of outstanding universities, the ethos of equality, diversity and access is at the heart of my passion for expanding opportunities for all.’ ‘My belief is that higher education knowledge exchange, cultural diversity and understanding is paramount for both personal and societal growth; true partnerships and engagement to address the challenges that face our world today.’ On behalf of the ACU, I wish you a very happy new year. Best wishes, Joanna Newman Chief Executive and Secretary General
